Broadbooks elected Director for USA/Canada Lenexa, Kansas
Thursday, October 9, 2008 David P. Wilson, general secretary for the Church of the Nazarene, has announced the election of Tennessee District Superintendent Robert Broadbooks as the director of the USA/Canada Mission/Evangelism Department. The election was made October 9 after a two-thirds majority vote was received on Mail Ballot No.1 to the General Board. Broadbooks has accepted the election, effective November 1. Thomas G. Nees previously served in this position until his retirement this year. Broadbooks was born into the Church of the Nazarene in Nebraska, is an ordained elder, and presently serves as the District Superintendent of the Tennessee District Church of the Nazarene. For 20 years, he served as pastor in four growing churches-Montrose First, Colorado; Denver Lakewood, Colorado; Hutchinson First, Kansas; and Tampa First, Florida. For the past 12 years, he has served as district superintendent. This includes six years on the Alabama North District and the last six years in Tennessee. These districts have moved forward under his leadership. Of particular satisfaction for him has been his involvement in the planting of 24 churches during this decade (8 Latino, 9 Anglo, 6 Black, 1 Korean). He has a B.A. from MidAmerica Nazarene University, 1973; an M.Div. from Nazarene Theological Seminary, 1976; and a D.D. from MidAmerica Nazarene University, 2000. He has been a delegate to four General Assemblies and is presently the chairman of the Trevecca Nazarene University Board of Trustees and the Southeast Region representative to the District Superintendents' Advisory Committee. He has also served on numerous other local, district, and general church committees and boards. He enjoys both preaching and writing and has contributed to several periodicals. His book, From Pastor to Pastor-Letters of Encouragement and Wisdom, was released by Nazarene Publishing House in 2003. Throughout all of these ministry experiences, his wife, the former Carol Renee Powers, has been actively involved. She graduated from MidAmerica Nazarene University with a degree in elementary education. For many years, she has been faithful to scripture memorization and intercessory prayer. Carol is often invited to speak at ladies' functions. The Broadbooks have two children. Daughter Keely and her husband, Matthew Mullins, currently reside in Nashville. The couple-both Trevecca graduates-has one son, Maxwell. Lincoln Broadbooks is a student at Nazarene Theological Seminary and is married to Danielle, an employee of Nazarene Publishing House. The couple resides in Olathe, Kansas. --Office of the General Secretary
